Varna Zoo
The Varna Zoo is a favourite place for varneans and guests of the city from Golden Sands or St.St. Constantine and Helena to visit. The zoo was founded in 1961 after a 3 year construction project created by architect Bistra Markova and K. Karakashev.
The zoo is located in the heart of the Sea Garden with the Dolphinarium and the Natural Science Museum in close proximity. The first inhabitants of the zoo were the bear Maxim and the red deer Longoz. The first one was a gift from the sailors from the destroyer squadron “G. Dimitrov” in 1956. Currently the zoo occupies 23 acres. There are over 60 different species of animals in the zoo. The count of the animals themselves is around 400. The Varna zoo is quite rich in vegetation, beautifully shaped grass fields and lakes which are home to a lot of aquatic birds.
While people lose contact with nature more and more, they can easily reconnect with their favourite animals in the zoo. Apart from being a place for recreation and an attraction for kids and adults alike, it plays a role in the preservation of local and exotic animals including endangered species.
The Zoo is reachable not only by foot but also by a rental car, public transport, taxis and more. If you want to visit the Varna Zoo you can take advantage of My Rent a Car and visit the park by getting a car of your choosing anywhere from Varna Airport, Varna Centre, Golden Sands, St. St. Constantine and Helena, Sunny day or other points within Varna.
