The Pantheon, Varna

“The monument of the fallen warriors against fascism and capitalism from Varna and Varna region in the period 1923-1944” or simply referred to as the Pantheon is one of the many monuments in the Sea Garden of Varna and also quite close to the Castle of culture and sports.

The history of this monuments began when in 1945 a Brethren mound was built on the Turna hill in the northern part of Varna. The remains of the fallen warriors against fascism and capitalism were laid in the mound as a remembrance place for them. Ten years later it was decided by the Varna region municipality that the then catholic cemetery and monument of french soldiers were to be moved. In their place it was planned that the remains from the Brethren mound will be moved in their place in a new monument. The Pantheon was officially unveiled on the 6th of November 1959 in honor of the 42nd anniversary of the October revolution from 1917.
